Baron Smog’s central goal is to replace the forest with industrial infrastructure. As you play Save Your Cat, you will notice sections of the map transitioning from lush green forest to grey factory zones. This is not just a visual change — it represents real gameplay consequences. When too much forest is lost, certain resource generation rates decrease and some upgrade paths become unavailable.

Restoring the forest reverses this process. It is both an ecological goal and a progression mechanic.

How Forest Loss Works

The game world is divided into zones. Each zone has a health bar that decreases over time when Baron Smog’s industrial influence is present. You can monitor zone health in the top-right panel of the interface. When a zone’s health reaches zero, it transitions to a factory zone and its resource generation bonuses are lost.

Zones do not all lose health at the same rate. Zones closer to Baron Smog’s factory core lose health faster. Zones that have been fully restored are more resilient and lose health more slowly.

Restoring a Zone

To restore a zone, you need to reach it in the game world and interact with the restoration anchor point. Each zone has one anchor point, marked on the map with a green indicator. Stand near the anchor and hold the interact button for three seconds to begin a restoration sequence.

The restoration sequence takes 30 seconds and cannot be interrupted by enemies — only by leaving the zone. During restoration, Seeds are consumed from your inventory. The number of Seeds required depends on how degraded the zone is. A slightly damaged zone might require 500 Seeds. A fully industrialised zone can require 5,000 Seeds or more.

Seeds and Restoration

Seeds are the primary resource for forest restoration. Every Seed you plant during a restoration session contributes directly to the zone’s recovery. This creates an important strategic trade-off: Seeds spent on restoration cannot be spent on Speed upgrades, and vice versa.

Early in the game, prioritise Speed upgrades and only restore zones when you have a large Seed surplus. Mid-game, balance Seed spending between restoration and upgrades. Late game, when your Speed multiplier is high and Seed generation is fast, restoration becomes the primary use of Seeds.

Restoration Rewards

Restoring a zone provides significant gameplay benefits. Each restored zone grants a passive bonus to either Speed, Seed generation, or Button drop rate. The specific bonus varies by zone. Restoring multiple adjacent zones can trigger a combo bonus that amplifies the rewards from all affected zones.

Fully restoring the entire map — all zones back to forest — triggers a world restoration event. During this event, all players in the server receive a temporary Speed multiplier boost and a batch of free Seeds and Buttons.

Zone Progression

Zones unlock progressively as your Speed increases. The starting zone is accessible from the beginning. The second zone unlocks when your Speed reaches 500. The third and fourth zones unlock at Speed 2,000 and Speed 5,000 respectively. The zone nearest Baron Smog’s factory core unlocks only when you are ready to attempt the encounter.

Each unlocked zone has a restoration anchor, a resource generation bonus, and a set of optional side objectives that award bonus Seeds when completed.

Restoration Strategy

The most efficient restoration strategy is to focus on one zone at a time rather than spreading Seeds across multiple zones. Completing a zone fully before moving to the next ensures you receive the full combo bonus and the zone’s resource generation bonus activates immediately.

Track your Seed income and plan restoration sessions around periods when your Speed is high enough that Seeds are accumulating faster than you can spend them on upgrades.
